Day 12: What's the Universe Trying to Tell Us?

April 25, 2020

The Grind-ies are the gravelly, down and dirty, mentally painful, zero-to-something thinking, learning, and producing that it takes to create something of your own. The Grind-ies Challenge is a 30 day pursuit to enter the Grind-ies mindset on a regular basis and document the experience.

Anyone else have the feeling the Universe is trying to tell us something?

Change happens when there's an imbalance.

There's definitely change happening!

How were we imbalanced?

Humans beings have survived a lot: wars, natural disasters, polio, HIV, 9/11, severe economic downturns, etc. I don't think we persevered through these things to enter the bulk of this century streaming TV and having burritos delivered to us via our phones without some critical thinking.

We're designed to run, jump, laugh, love, and express ourselves.

I think we're getting more of what we've been misusing in the short-term to force us into some self-reflection.

I'm so sick of screens I can barely type this.

Loving each other. Going outside. Gathering casually after a game. Screwing around in a restaurant parking lot. Pacing out a televsion show. Treating music like art. Pondering technology.

Self-regulation is hard enough without being served a surplus of digital junk food.

We were getting carried way.

Netflix sucks because it's consumed us. They clearly made choices to make their platform addictive and no one says anything. Abuse, anyone? Gaslight me.

Why do we have to go this far to learn a lesson?

Life skills. Learning. Wholesome creativity. Little kids dancing. Self-expression. Getting your inner needs met in a pure way that doesn't involve buying things.

5 years from now, let's say those are the new normal. Let's cringe at life pre-Corona.

Day 12

Time in the Grind-ies: 3 hours, 5 minutes

Projects: organizing a website for work-for-hire gigs, working on a work-for-hire gig

How I felt afterward: I'm getting a little weary, but a habit is definitely forming. Before this challenge, I acted on ideas and did my best with them. After Day 12, I realized organizing creativity is my career, something I never felt I had before.
