Day 7: Emotional Security

April 20, 2020

The Grind-ies are the gravelly, down and dirty, mentally painful, zero-to-something thinking, learning, and producing that it takes to create something of your own. The Grind-ies Challenge is a 30 day pursuit to enter the Grind-ies mindset on a regular basis and document the experience.

Taste. Touch. Smell. Hear. See.

These survival tools come equipped with mechanisms for applying their purposes: a finger to feel, a nose to smell, a tongue to taste, etc.

But if you're a creative person there's a sixth sensation to express—you have a ravenous hunger to bring the spirit of your song, book, or performance to the world, but without a vehicle.

You're born with an endless supply of worms but no fishing pole.

If you ignore the flame, the burden of responsibility is sidestepped, but its itch will become an infected scratch at the core of your decision-making. "Oh, you could get a PhD, but not sing at open mics, huh?"

If you engine your creative drive, sun rays of fulfillment shine wherever you walk, but you must bare loneliness, rejection, and a transformation navigated by the mighty, mighty Universe.

What's an imaginative, expressive person to do?

Develop discipline. It's your ally. It's the finger, nose, and ear that gives your creativity an outlet.

Without discipline, creativity can turn against us. With discipline, creativity can build careers, attract wealth, and inspire the world.

Discipline will deliver all the things for survival in the short-term and the lessons for abundance in the long-term.

My time in the Grind-ies has exposed this.

The Grind-ies constructed a highway for my creativity to travel from my mind to a garage of utility.

Along with projects, I've used the Grind-ies to learn business models, explore how to disseminate posts like these, and develop the avenues to create and market services.

Creativity is the reservoir, discipline is the pipeline; combined, the duo establish an emotional security that truly places your life in your hands.

The bricks of the road are there—you just have to lay them through action.

It's running through me each time I enter that mindset. I'm a lion on top of a rugged mountain, releasing a conquering growl.

Day 7

Time in the Grind-ies: 3 hours, 34 minutes

Projects: Work-for-hire gig, updated blogs and explored social media, organized all the models I could use to circulate my content

How I felt afterward: I almost have to calm down because my brain is so excited about the collection of ideas that have been exposed to me. It's like rooting out an emotional block and experiencing the flow of new chemicals.

Day 8 right here.
